Patricia Qualls USA, b. 1954
60.96 x 243.84 cm
Born from a personal "life presence review," this series began with a singular, urgent question: "If I were to die tomorrow, what do I need to do?" For Qualls, this process is about clearing away regrets and living with a heightened sense of awareness and self-honesty at this stage of her life. The specific inquiry that inspired this piece was: "Who do I need to forgive, and who do I need to ask for forgiveness?"
Drawing on her deep belief in the healing powers of the universe—the sun, the wind, and the earth—Qualls turns to the water for clarity on what she must do. Whether walking the beaches of Carmel or sitting by the river, she views the ocean as a presence that heals and recharges the spirit. Capable of washing away what needs to be cleared to make way for peace in the heart.
