Having spent seventeen years living on Carmel Point, Patricia Qualls found the experience of residing across from the ocean deeply reflected in her creative process. In this series, she utilizes the seascape as a metaphor for the human psyche. The ocean represents the depth and complexity of our inner selves—including the darker, challenging experiences that inevitably shape our identity.
In contrast, the bright, gentle sky symbolizes the light, hope, and personal growth achieved when we navigate through those difficulties toward healing. For Qualls, these paintings are not merely coastal views, but visual explorations of self-discovery, showing how the "weather" of our lives ultimately leads us to a place of clarity and peace.
